The Murderous Urges of Ordinary Women

A few months ago a book fell off the NEW FICTION shelf at the Boulder Public Library where I was perusing for some summer reading. When a book falls off the shelf I would be remiss to not look it over carefully. The title certainly intrigued:
The Murderous Urges of Ordinary Women by Lois Meltzer.  Being a self-published author myself  ( Priestess Entrepreneur: Success is an Inside Job and other must-have works for purchase at my ONLINE store, published by The Beatrice Brown Publishing Company- that would be me)  I  always look to see who published the book I am about to read. Publishing company: Certain Age Press.

Murderous Urges of Ordinary Women

Ok, so I am an ordinary woman of a certain age and, God knows,  I certainly have had murderous urges. The cover clinched it for me. American Gothic except that Granny is sporting sunglasses and holding a shotgun.
A keeper for sure.

I went home and read the book in one sitting. I laughed out loud. I squealed with delight.  I even shed a few tears. The book follows the antics of 4 women friends over the age of 50 who see that their general invisibility gives them the power to take action in ways they were wouldn’t consider before!  Justice will be served. Scales will be balanced. And are they ever clever! Kind of reminds me of when my tenant throws cigarette butts in the yard and I flush the toilet when he is in the shower. Oops.
All in all,  The Murderous Urges of Ordinary Women is a fine way to spend a hot summer’s day. Because I am the sort who does this type of thing, I tracked the author down through her website.  If you are an author you MUST have a website, even just to direct people to Amazon and to receive correspondences. I needed to know if she was local as I wanted to interview her on my show.

As it turns out Lois lives far from me in the Pacific Northwest and had no plans to be in Boulder any time soon. Not to be thwarted I suggested a phone interview. There was so much I wanted to ask about the characters, her self-publishing experience, her inspiration. It was agreed. We tried once but due to technological glitches only my voice came out. We rescheduled and what you have here is a totally fun and  inspiring interview of the delightfully clever and warm-hearted author of  The Murderous Urges of Ordinary Women, Lois Meltzer.

Grab a cup of tea and enjoy the chat.
Please leave a comment so I know you were here.

And…if you are an author or know of an author who wants to promote her book through an interview with me  have her contact me at cinnabelle@earthlink.net.

Thank you and happy listening!

Applause

"I think what you've done with your kitchen table conversations is fabulous. Thanks for creating a completely comfortable atmosphere for diaglogue about my business. It was so easy to just chat for half and hour, the time went by so fast. The results have been a fun way to share with friends family and clients what I have been up to lately, and it's been a really useful way to let potential clients get to know me before we even have a phone consultation. I've been able to get engaged with clients in conversations around the issues that are important to them much more quickly than previously. Between their viewing the vimeo, and a simple survey they complete, we are able to begin meaningful conversations in a matter of minutes. I know your interview helped set the stage for that. Thank you!!"
